What Is Kennel Cough?

Kennel Cough is a common ailment that affects pets, primarily dogs and cats, just as similar upper respiratory infections afflict humans. The scientific name for the most common form of the ailment is infectious tracheobronchitis. Forms of what is commonly known as Kennel Cough also go by the names Bordetellosis, or Bordetella. This disease is highly infectious, especially in dogs. Infected animals will shed the virus for 6 to 14 weeks after the infection symptoms have been resolved. The majority cases of kennel Cough are caused by more than one infectious agent, usually a combination of viral and bacterial infections.

Kennel Cough symptoms include fever, nasal discharge, and a dry, hacking cough that sounds like something may be caught in the throat – often described as a “hacking” sound. Although Kennel Cough itself is not a serious disease, it is often distressing to see your pet suffer from this infection. In some cases, the ailment can lead to a more serious condition - pneumonia. In mild cases, your pet may remain alert and active, but in more severe cases, symptoms may include lethargy, fever, and loss of appetite. Severe cases of Kennel Cough usually occur in immuno-compromised or young animals.

Kennel Cough gets its name from the tendency to spread extensively in kennels where pets are boarded. It can also be readily contracted at shows, parks, or anywhere where there is a gathering of dogs or cats in close space. Kennel Cough generally strikes when a pet is recovering from a viral or respiratory illness. Though usually a secondary invader, it can also be a primary cause of illness. The cough can last up to 6 weeks if left untreated.

How To Take Care of Kennel Cough – Naturally and Effectively

To nurse Kennel Cough in your pet, Amber Technology’s Kennel Koff is a natural and effective natural organic antibiotic designed to help your pet overcome the bacterial infection that causes the affliction. In most cases, Kennel Koff relieves the cough within 48 hours, though the effectiveness of Kennel Koff depends on a 7-10 day continuous regimen. If you plan to board your pet, or foresee your pet being around other animals, you may use Kennel Koff as a preventative. Conventional treatments include antibiotics, bronchodilators, and cough suppressants. Kennel Koff is specially formulated to aid in fighting bacterial infection, quell post-infection inflammation, stimulate circulation, increase immune function, and reduce free radical load.

Vaccines are offered for Kennel Cough, but these preventative treatments rarely provide protection against contracting the disease. Additionally, the vaccine itself carries with it a risk of contraction of the disease.

Kennel Cough Imitators

It is difficult to distinguish Kennel Cough from the Canine Flu. The Flu is primarily viral in nature, while Kennel Cough usually includes a complicating bacterial infection. Canine Flu often mimics the symptoms of Kennel Cough. The key difference in the case of the Flu is excessive upper respiratory congestion. If you are unsure which ailment your pet has, Amber Technology recommends the use of Pet’s Cough and Cold formula along with Kennel Koff. This combination is safe and will cover incidences of either illness.

The standard dosing of Kennel Koffis Administer orally 4 times daily for up 10 days as needed.

When treating more than one pet with the same dropper, it is necessary to assure sterile administration without carry over from pet to pet. The best way to assure this is to use the dropper only to transfer product to an individual sterile oral syringe—a different syringe for each pet. Those syringes should be sterilized after each use. Each pet should

have its own syringe that is not shared with another pet. If a syringe is not readily available, then until one can be found, one may mix the product with a larger volume of flavored fluid (e.g. tuna or salmon water) that is to be lapped from a bowl. However, the use of a syringe assures a more accurate dose.

Long Term Use:

Co-administration of  with Pet’s Cough & Cold Formula or other Amber Technology products are short term (10 days). However, there are clinical settings in which Kennel Koff is utilized beyond a ten day regimen. Kennel Koff may be used for many months administering twice a day as directed to build immunity as well as a variety of conditions resulting in viral and bacterial symptoms.

Kennel Koff may be administered twice daily for up six months as needed. If administration of Kennel Koff beyond six months is mandated, a two week holiday (break) from product before re-starting is necessary. Kennel Koff can be administered via this six month rotation cycle for eighteen months.

For exposed pets: Administer the number of drops indicated on the weight chart 2 times daily, twelve hours apart. Do this for 5 to 10 days or until the exposed infected animals recover.
